Extraction of a foreign body inhaled into the right main bronchus by bronchotomy

Abstract
An infant aged 3 months developed dyspnea and cyanosis suddenly because of aspiration of a foreign body into the right main bronchus.
The extraction of a foreign body inhaled into the tracheobronchial tree by bronchoscopy may be the classical treatment.
But the author extracted the foreign body impacted in the right main bronchus causing atelectasis of this lung, by bronchotomy under general anesthesia using halothane-oxygen.
Procaine infiltration of the hilar region and full oxygenation may help to prevent reflexive cardiac arrest or bradycardia during manipulation of the right main bronchus.
During operation, the dislodgement of the foreign body from the bronchus may be prevented by inserting a suction catheter into the intratracheal tube intermittently, thereby preventing asphyxia due to tracheal obstruction by the foreign body.
